Formatting of dates extracted out of text string
What is the proper way to extract a date string and having it show up in Excel as a date? I am defining the data piece as: CTOD(SUBSTR(RECEIVED.FIELD5,243,8) which grabs something like 08/12/09 out of a long concatenation and does produce output to Excel as 08-Dec-09, but as a piece of text. I set the Data Type in DataItemEditor as Date. Output width as 10. No Output Picture. Having no output picture appears to work well in many cases, but I am also not aware of what should be here. Putting mm/dd/yy does not appear to have any impact.

Re: Formatting of dates extracted out of text string
I noticed that I posted something about this need on 7/22/09 also. It is indeed possible to correct this with a text to column in Excel, but I'm working toward having the data correct to begin with. I do not know, nor can I find by using Google, what the format pictures are in VFP. I saw something {mm/dd/yy}, so I stuck that in. I does not affect anything. I'm assuming it is incredibly simple, headslapping etc. Yet, I have no inkling.

Re: Formatting of dates extracted out of text string
Must have been something I wasn't doing correctly because I have edited all my fields and they work fine now. Amazing what difference a period instead of a comma makes sometimes.
