Field access

My company has a table within our database that stores information specific to each client site. We need to access one field from this table, facility code, for reporting purposes.

Unfortunately this table does not link to any other table within the database. I'm stumped as to how to access the needed field within Foxfire since I cannot set up a relationship in any view to this table.

Any suggestions?

Dale

Re: Field access
Hi Dale

In your report, are you including fields from other tables as well?

In your applicatin, how do you KNOW how to look for a specific client in that table? Is it handled by a memory variable or is it simply that the table exists with "one" record per install site?

Is that table already open when you access Foxfire!?  If so, here's what you can do:
Create a data item for this field.
Clear out the Alias and File name - this is what Foxfire! uses to try and create the joins.
Go to the Filter button in the Data Dictionary and choose No - so users can't filter on this value.
Save the Data Item.
You should be prompted that this data item looks like a memory variable and will be evaluated as such at runtime. Click OK to this.

Now you should be able to use this in your reports.

If the table is NOT open when you access Foxfire!, open the FFCONFIG file and add a line in the GLOBAL SETUP that opens the table in another work area. Remember to compile the FFCONFIG when you are done so that the changes will take effect.

Let me know if you have more questions about it.

Thanks
Andrew
